Being the third fastest growing city in India and connected to the national Capital,   it is necessary for Faridabad to be well connected to the travel infrastructure in the city. This means having good connectivity to the National Highways, railways and airports both domestic and International in its vicinity.

Until the coming of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and its connectivity to Faridabad travelling to Delhi used to be a very tiring exercise. There were only two means of public transport available and that was the Bus Routes of the Haryana Roadways and the DTC and besides that the other option was the EMU connectivity via the Indian Railways. Both of these were not really very comfortable and regular. The service of the Bus routes was irregular and uncomfortable; the busses were of low quality. On the other hand the train services were also not very reliable due to the heavy traffic on this route and the trains were crowded. Getting to the Railway stations in Delhi was always a struggle.

With the coming of the Delhi Metro Service to Faridabad the connectivity improved tremendously. It became easier to connect to the Train stations as the metro services were fast and regular. However the connectivity to the Domestic and International airports was a still not that easy.  It still took a long time to reach the airport. On the other hand Gurgaon being a corporate hub there were a lot of people working In Gurgaon and living in Faridabad. Commuting to Gurgaon from Faridabad was still a struggle and expensive.

The Government, to increase the connectivity between Faridabad to Gurgaon and looking at the development of Faridabad and the importance of connecting these two most important cities of Haryana decided to extend the connectivity of the Metro between these two cities. The route was decided and it was decided to connect the Bata Chowk Station to Gurgaon at the Vatika Chowk. The land was acquired by the government and finally now the work has started on the link up.

The total distance of the Metro Line is going to be 32 kms from one end to the other. It will have 6 stoppages excluding the starting and end stations.  Five of the 8 stations will be in Faridabad district and 3 of them in Gurgaon.  The total project is going to be completed at an estimated cost of 5900 crores of rupees. The work on this extension of the Delhi Metro Railroad Corporation is expected to be completed by 2025.

This link will have many advantages for the general public.

Firstly the link will make commuting between Faridabad and Gurgaon easier and cheaper. The people who are living in Faridabad and working in Gurgaon will have better connectivity and save time in commuting between the two cities. The connection will also shorten the time needed to commute from Faridabad to the Airports in New Delhi. The link will ease the road traffic between the two cities leading to lesser congestion on the roads. The maintenance cost of the highways will be significantly reduced due to lesser wear and tear.

The Faridabad Gurgaon Metro connection is going to be a very vital link for Faridabad’s development.
